Apps: How to Use the Editor Tools and Record Code Features

As you are learning to create apps in the Application Builder, we want you to take advantage of all of the tools that are available to you. The video featured here introduces you to the Editor Tools, Model Data Access, and Record Code features and demonstrates how to use them. To do so, we add a button to our app that can switch the type of plot shown in the graphics window.

If you are in the process of learning how to build simulation apps, the video shown here is a fantastic introduction to writing methods. With a fully functioning app already built, we create a method with the click of a button and then proceed to play a sound, include user inputs, and add an if-else statement. All of this is done using Language Elements, which are included in the Method Editor to help make creating methods a breeze.

When a user running your COMSOL app finds a particularly interesting set of results, they might need to save their app so they can come back to it later. Without save options, you’d have to re-run the simulation later with the input parameters they gave you. That would be very inefficient and defeat the purpose of creating simulation apps. Today, we’ll show you how to add a file menu with save options in your app.

Importing meshes into COMSOL Multiphysics is often necessary when interfacing between different programs. With COMSOL Multiphysics version 5.0, these meshes can be converted into solid geometry objects for further investigation and modeling capabilities.
