Trivial solution for a simple BVP using the Electrostatics module

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I have a 1D axisymmetric model with two domains. 1D Poisson Boltzmann equation (can work with the linearized equation too) is applied in the first domain whereas the second domain is a dieletric (satisfies Laplace equation). The interface between the two domains has a surface charge density. I am using Electrostatics module for this simulation. The problem is very simple and can be easily solved analytically but COMSOL produces a trivial solution for the first domain and tries to match up with the boundary condition at the interface, resulting in large oscillations near the interface. How is it possible to avoid the trivial solution? Is it because of the convergence criteria or am I missing something while setting up the problem in COMSOL?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Pragati
