Making a model of appertisation process

Hi, I need to make an model of appertisation process, which is a basically heating a can in water, then cooling it, with both times specified. It is my university project, but unfortunately we didn't cover it during the lectures so I'm quite lost. I'm stuck at the very beginning. Can anyone point me to some kind of video or article explaining how to program the process?
