Contact Pressure evaluation in a contact mechanics problem.

Hi, Everyone! In my axisymmetric problem, a rectangle is pressed against another rectangle in steps. Contact is defined between the two rectangle boundaries and proper meshings rule for contact is defined as discussed in different contact blogs.

First I use penalty method in contact then the variation in contact pressure is too much zig-zag as shown in figure attached. Then I used augmented lagrange method then I get the convergence errors as-

Failed to find a solution for all parameters,
even when using the minimum parameter step.
No convergence, relative stepsize too small.
                                    Returned solution is not converged.
                                    Not all parameter steps returned.

What is the best practice to get a smooth variation in contact pressure along the boundary? (Currently I am not using friction but I will use latter)

Thanks for your suggetions and response Shyam
