for me A is first of all an engineering tool, while COMSOL is both for physicists and engineers, because you can go deeper into the physics, and its not that much a "black box" thing.
There is a price aspect too, at least for non-academic users but we should not say that too loudly here ;)

1. arbitrary equations may be added on input; i.e., pde mode in COMSOL
2. many more physics options are available through the add-in modules. An infinite number of physics options when you think of #1 option above combined with the ability to change any equation.
