Adaptive Mesh Refinement

Hi,

I am performing a Phase Field simulation on a large domain (with very small interface width - approx. 10^3-10^4 ratio of width to domain scale).

I am using Adaptive Mesh Refinement for time adaptation using regular refinement and automatic time interval set with initial step 0.001 s. Mesh has triangular elements.

I am changing a couple of parameters to see how find I can get the mesh to be since that will help me play with finer interfaces but it seems to not go below 10 times of the maximum mesh element size of the coarse mesh. Error indicator is norm of the gradient of the phase field variable.

How can I effectively control how fine I can get the refined areas to be? Or is there an inherent limit to COMSOL? There doesn't seem to be much discussion in the COMSOL documentation on this as well. I would be very happy with any help I can get on this!

Thank you!
