Behind the Rumble and Roar of Mahindra Motorcycles

Optimization is a subtle and delicate art, especially when it comes to motorcycles. Regulatory requirements on pass-by noise must be met, while a loud, rumbling muffler is integral to the perception of bike power. Engineers at Mahindra Two Wheelers perform a balancing act when developing motorcycles. They performed multiphysics analyses on engines, intakes, and exhaust systems to study noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), optimizing structural designs to maximize noise at low frequencies and minimize noise at high frequencies. They used the Application Builder to create simulation apps that compare analysis output files and plot sound pressure level (SPL) data.

With the Application Builder, Mahindra engineers created an easy-to-use simulation app that is used to compare analysis files and plot sound pressure level (SPL) data.
