In accordance with our Quality Policy, COMSOL maintains a library of hundreds of documented model examples that are regularly tested against the latest version of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, including benchmark problems from ASME and NAFEMS, as well as TEAM problems.
Our Verification and Validation (V&V) test suite provides consistently accurate solutions that are compared against analytical results and established benchmark data. The documented models below are part of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software’s built-in Application Libraries. They include reference values and sources for a wide range of benchmarks, as well as step-by-step instructions to reproduce the expected results on your own computer. You can use these models not only to document your software quality assurance (SQA) and numerical code verification (NCV) efforts, but also as part of an in-house training program.
The capability to alter the polarization of light is crucial to a wide variety of optical devices. For example, the polarization of light has a significant effect on the performance of optical isolators, attenuators, and beam splitters. By assigning a specific polarization to light, most ... 詳細を見る
Most metals and alloys undergo viscoplastic deformation at high temperatures. In case of cyclic loading, a constitutive law with both isotropic and kinematic hardening is necessary to describe effects such as ratcheting, cyclic softening/hardening, and stress relaxation. The Lemaitre ... 詳細を見る
This benchmark model computes the transient pressure distribution and film height in a squeeze film bearing for lubrication in a nonconformal conjunction of a solid sphere and an elastic wall separated by a lubricant film. This model solves the benchmark case of hydrodynamic interaction ... 詳細を見る
Experiments on dry and wet soil samples are performed to understand their behavior under different loading conditions. In this example, the Extended Barcelona Basic (BBMx) soil model is used to simulate the wetting and drying paths in partially saturated soil samples under cyclic ... 詳細を見る
This verification model of nonisothermal turbulent flow over a flat plate compares the heat transfer coefficient obtained from simulation with theoretical values based on Nusselt number correlation functions that can be found in the literature. 詳細を見る
Isotropic compression is a common material test in soil mechanics. The modified Cam-Clay (MCC) model describes the relation between the void ratio and the logarithm of the pressure. In this example, a cylindrical soil sample under isotropic compression is simulated. It is verified that, ... 詳細を見る
In this example, triaxial and oedometer tests are simulated using the Hardening Soil material model. Both tests exhibit a hyperbolic stress–strain relationship. For the triaxial test, it is confirmed that the axial stress approaches the analytical failure stress asymptotically. In the ... 詳細を見る
This tutorial shows how to use the Surface-to-Surface Radiation interface to simulate radiative heat transfer with radiation between diffuse emitters and diffuse-and-specular reflectors. This model is separated in two parts. The first part focuses on a validation test for the radiative ... 詳細を見る
In this model the high speed turbulent gas flow in a converging and diverging nozzle is modeled using the High Mach Number Flow interface. The diffuser is transonic in the sense that the flow at the inlet is subsonic, but due to the contraction and the low outlet pressure, the flow ... 詳細を見る
Carbon dioxide in aqueous solution is highly corrosive and can cause significant damage to steel designs. Such conditions arise in pipes used in a variety of applications, especially within the petrochemical industry. In this tutorial example, turbulent flows consisting of carbon ... 詳細を見る
