Composite and heterogeneous materials are being increasingly used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and energy, where complex microstructures strongly influence macroscopic behavior. Accurately predicting the effective structural properties of these materials is essential for reliable system-level design, yet explicitly resolving microscale features can be computationally expensive.

In this webinar, we will discuss how COMSOL Multiphysics® can be used to efficiently perform material homogenization and derive equivalent macroscopic properties from detailed microscale models. We will present a practical workflow for defining representative volume elements (RVEs), applying appropriate boundary conditions, and extracting effective material parameters for use in large-scale simulations. There will be examples covering multiple physics domains, such as structural mechanics and heat transfer, illustrating how homogenization can be integrated into multiphysics modeling workflows.

Attendees will gain practical guidance on incorporating homogenized material models into their simulations in order to reduce computational cost while maintaining high predictive accuracy.
