Electromagnetic metamaterials are engineered to manipulate electromagnetic waves in ways that conventional materials cannot. Often consisting of periodic structures smaller than the wavelength of the incident radiation, these materials can exhibit electromagnetic properties not typically found in nature. By tailoring these structures, metamaterials offer unprecedented control over wave propagation and interactions, enabling phenomena such as negative refraction and perfect absorption as well as applications such as subwavelength imaging.

In this webinar, we will demonstrate how COMSOL Multiphysics® can be used to model, analyze, and optimize electromagnetic metamaterials. We will cover techniques for simulating periodic structures, evaluating their electromagnetic response and how variations in geometry and material properties influence performance. These modeling approaches can support the development of metamaterial structures for applications in telecommunications, antenna design, photonics, aerospace, and defense.
