Fluid flow can interact with sound in multiple ways: It can generate noise, modify acoustic wave propagation, and be influenced by sound itself. In this webinar, we will introduce aeroacoustics modeling techniques in the COMSOL Multiphysics® software. We will discuss the setup of coupled flow–acoustic models for analyzing flow-induced noise, convective effects of moving fluids on sound, and acoustically induced flow, such as acoustic streaming and sound-driven vortex shedding at small openings or sharp edges.

The webinar will demonstrate practical workflows and coupling approaches for simulating complex fluid–sound interactions, considering examples drawn from real applications such as:

  • Cavity flow noise prediction
  • Acoustic liner performance in flowing media
  • Ultrasonic flow sensing
  • Microscale acoustofluidic device design
  • Nonlinear distortion and losses due to vortex formation in electroacoustic systems
