Geometric Parameter Optimization of a Tuning Fork

This model computes the fundamental eigenfrequency and eigenmode for a tuning fork that is synchronized from Creo Parametric via the LiveLink interface. The length of the fork is then optimized so that the tuning fork sounds the note A, 440 Hz.

Slider Crank Mechanism

This is a benchmark model to test the numerical algorithms in the area of multibody dynamics. This model simulates the dynamic behavior of the slider crank mechanism. This mechanism goes through singular positions during its operation. The acceleration at a point is compared with the results from the reference.

Fresnel Equations (Wave Optics)

A plane electromagnetic wave propagating through free space is incident at an angle upon an infinite dielectric medium. This model computes the reflection and transmission coefficients and compares the results to the Fresnel equations.

Michelson Interferometer

This model couples the Heat Transfer in Solids, Solid Mechanics and Geometrical Optics interfaces to compute the effect of thermal expansion of optical components on the interference pattern displayed by a Michelson interferometer.

Helmholtz Resonator Analyzed with Different Frequency Domain Solvers

This model simulates a simple three-dimensional axisymmetric Helmholtz resonator, a classic acoustics model of a resonating circuit with a known theoretical solution. The idealized version considered here consists of a tube and a closed volume in series which are exposed to a pulsatile pressure. Real-world phenomena explained by the resonator include amongst others the resonance from blowing ...

Marangoni Effect

Marangoni convection occurs when the surface tension of an interface (generally liquid-air) depends on the concentration of a species or on the temperature distribution. In the case of temperature dependence, the Marangoni effect is also called thermo-capillary convection. The Marangoni effect is of primary importance in the fields of welding, crystal growth and electron beam melting of ...

Plasmonic Wire Grating

This application computes coefficients of refraction, specular reflection, and first order diffraction as functions of the angle of incidence for a wire grating on a dielectric substrate. The incident angle of a plane wave is swept from the normal angle to the grazing angle on the grating structure. The application also shows the electric field norm plot for multiple grating periods for a ...

Linear Magnetic Gear

In this model, a linear magnetic gear system with a gear ratio of 11:4 is modeled. The liner magnetic gear is assumed to be infinitely long with the modular structure that is repeating on either side. Only a single modular section is modeled by using the customized linear periodic boundary condition. Both the low speed and the high speed armatures (rotors) consist of permanent magnets and back ...

Inductive Liquid Metal Pump

Induction pumps are used in high temperature cooling systems. The principle of operation is equivalent to a linear three phase induction motor. The lack of moving parts and the pumped liquid being kept in a hermetically closed system are clear advantages. This model shows how to simulate a generic liquid Na pump.

Acoustic Muffler with Thermoacoustic Impedance Lumping

This model utilizes the thermoacoustic interface in a sub-model to obtain detailed results for the transfer impedance of a perforated plate (including the thermal and viscous losses). The impedance is in turn used as an internal impedance in a pressure acoustic model of a muffler. The results are compared to classic impedance models and measurements.
