In accordance with our Quality Policy, COMSOL maintains a library of hundreds of documented model examples that are regularly tested against the latest version of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, including benchmark problems from ASME and NAFEMS, as well as TEAM problems.
Our Verification and Validation (V&V) test suite provides consistently accurate solutions that are compared against analytical results and established benchmark data. The documented models below are part of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software’s built-in Application Libraries. They include reference values and sources for a wide range of benchmarks, as well as step-by-step instructions to reproduce the expected results on your own computer. You can use these models not only to document your software quality assurance (SQA) and numerical code verification (NCV) efforts, but also as part of an in-house training program.
This tutorial shows how to set up a ray release based on the incident electric field at a boundary. First the Electomagnetic Waves, Frequency Domain interface is used to solve for the electric field of a plane wave. Then rays are released with initial intensity and polarization matching ... 詳細を見る
The capability to alter the polarization of light is crucial to a wide variety of optical devices. For example, the polarization of light has a significant effect on the performance of optical isolators, attenuators, and beam splitters. By assigning a specific polarization to light, most ... 詳細を見る
This benchmark model compares the damping coefficients of perforated plates from computation results versus experimental data. The simulation includes 18 different geometric configurations. It uses the Bao's perforation model, which is built-in in the Thin Film Flow physics interface. ... 詳細を見る
In this example, monotonic and cyclic triaxial tests are simulated using the Hardening Soil Small Strain material model. The model captures the effects of small strain stiffness and hysteresis under cyclic loading. The stress-strain relationship matches the hyperbolic curve reported in ... 詳細を見る
In this example, a settlement and heave analysis of a shallow foundation resting on an unsaturated soil stratum is conducted with the Modified Cam-Clay and Extended Barcelona Basic soil models. The effect of pore suction due to movements in the phreatic line and the resulting settlement ... 詳細を見る
In this example, a heat-conduction problem with phase change in a porous material is solved, and the results are compared with the analytical solution, also known as the Lunardini solution. This is the first benchmark case from the InterFrost project, which was initiated to compare ... 詳細を見る
This example presents a homogenized model of a corrugated sheet based on a unit cell approach. The numerically obtained equivalent stiffness matrices are compared with various analytical models. Two corrugation profiles, trapezoidal and round, are considered in this example. 詳細を見る
This example demonstrates the bending analysis of a simply supported composite laminate under sinusoidal distributed transverse load. The composite laminate is thick, with a thickness to side length ratio of 1/4. The laminate has three layers in a cross-ply layup. The model is solved ... 詳細を見る
When analyzing rotors, it is common that bearings are modeled through their effective dynamic coefficients about a static equilibrium position. This model illustrates how to compute such coefficients for a cylindrical journal bearing. The bearing length is kept much smaller than its ... 詳細を見る
This example describes the cooling and solidification, from melt to solid metal, in a continuous casting process. The model includes nonisothermal properties, temperature distribution, flow field, and phase change. This example uses the arbritrary Lagrangian-Eulerian method for modeling ... 詳細を見る
