In accordance with our Quality Policy, COMSOL maintains a library of hundreds of documented model examples that are regularly tested against the latest version of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, including benchmark problems from ASME and NAFEMS, as well as TEAM problems.
Our Verification and Validation (V&V) test suite provides consistently accurate solutions that are compared against analytical results and established benchmark data. The documented models below are part of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software’s built-in Application Libraries. They include reference values and sources for a wide range of benchmarks, as well as step-by-step instructions to reproduce the expected results on your own computer. You can use these models not only to document your software quality assurance (SQA) and numerical code verification (NCV) efforts, but also as part of an in-house training program.
This model example shows how to model nonlinear propagation of 1D finite-amplitude Acoustic waves in fluids using Acoustics Module of COMSOL Multiphysics. The model is based on the 2nd order Westervelt equation. The one dimensional nonlinear wave equation is solved in the time domain by ... 詳細を見る
A plane electromagnetic wave propagating through free space is incident at an angle upon an infinite dielectric medium. This model computes the reflection and transmission coefficients and compares to the Fresnel equations. 詳細を見る
This example applies an Oldroyd-B fluid to model the thinning of a viscoelastic filament under the action of surface tension. For times smaller than the polymer relaxation time, the filament develops a beads-on-string structure. At times much larger than the relaxation time, the solution ... 詳細を見る
In this model, two flat end mirrors are placed at a distance and a spherical lens is inserted in the middle of the cavity. A ray is released from a point inside the cavity. Then the ray is traced for a predefined time period that is sufficiently long. Ray tracing continues until the ... 詳細を見る
In this benchmark example, a semi-elliptical crack at the inner surface of a cylinder is studied. The inside of the cylinder and the crack faces are subjected to a pressure load. The J-integral is calculated along the crack front, and the stress intensity factor is then compared with the ... 詳細を見る
This model solves Poisson's equation on a unit disk with a point source at the origin. The mesh density is higher close to the origin to resolve the singularity. The computed solution is compared to the analytical solution. 詳細を見る
The vibration modes of a thin or thick circular disc are well known, and it is possible to compute the corresponding eigenfrequencies to arbitrary precision from a series solution. The same is true for the acoustic modes of an air-filled cylinder with perfectly rigid walls. A more ... 詳細を見る
This example explores the shift in natural frequencies caused by changing the temperature. One study investigates a doubly clamped beam where both ends are fixed, while the other study looks at a cantilever beam where only one end is fixed. The following effects are studied: Stress ... 詳細を見る
A strong permanent magnet is placed close to a clamped thin plate made of iron. The magnetic force causes the plate to be deflected. This example studies the plate's elastic deformation and stress. The deformation of the plate has an influence on the distribution of the magnetic field. ... 詳細を見る
Liquid-solid mixtures (suspensions) are important in a variety of industrial fields, such as oil and gas refinement, paper manufacturing, food processing, slurry transport, and wastewater treatment. Several different modeling approaches have been developed by the CFD community, ranging ... 詳細を見る
