Running COMSOL Multiphysics in an IPv6 Environment

Problem Description

I am attempting to install or update COMSOL from an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) environment. I am unable to use online documentation and/or send emails from COMSOL to a IPv6-SMTP server.

Solution

Installation:

Download the offline installation media (ISO file for Windows®/Linux®, DMG file for macOS) from the download page from an IPv4-capable environment.

Transfer the installation media to the IPv6 environment using, for example, a USB stick.

Update:

Download the manual update .dat file from the update page from an IPv4-capable environment.

Transfer the update file to the IPv6 environment using, for example, a USB stick.

Email:

Starting COMSOL with the flag -ipv6 makes connections to IPv6 SMTP servers possible. Linux®/macOS: ./comsol -ipv6

Windows®: comsol.exe -ipv6

Documentation:

Online documentation is not available over IPv6. To use the documentation, install the documentation locally during the installation.
