Solution
COMSOL uses a unique identifier from your computer, called its hostid, to restrict your license to a given machine. This error appears when none of the hostids COMSOL sees on your computer, listed after “Hostids from this computer,” match the hostid in the license file, listed after “Hostid.”
The solution is to use a license file which does match this computer.
Step 1: How to locate an existing license file
When you see this error, it is possible that you already have access to another license file which will let you to use COMSOL on this computer.
COMSOL sends an updated copy of your license file via email to a designated point of contact whenever a change is made to your license. Attached to each email will be a license.dat file which matches the hostid in the subject line.
If you have an unlabeled license.dat file on hand, you can open it in a text editor to check its hostid. You can look for one of multiple lines like:
FEATURE COMSOL LMCOMSOL 6.4 permanent uncounted HOSTID=111111aaaaaa
Step 2: How to request a new license file
If you cannot locate a license file which matches this computer, then you can reach out to Support to request a new license file.
In your request, please include the full error message, along with some helpful context. For example, are you moving your COMSOL installation from one computer to another, adding a new installation to a named single-user license (to a total of up to 4), or did an existing installation of COMSOL stop working?
Step 3: Replacing the old license file
Once you have a license file that matches your computer, you can replace the old one used by your COMSOL installation following the steps in Adding a New Product with the COMSOL Installer.
