Optimization of a Truss Tower

Application ID: 90341

Gradient based optimization is an efficient way of computing better values for many control variables. This example optimizes diameters of individual members in a truss structure such that the structure becomes stiffer without adding mass to the structure. The structure will be only be stiff for the considered load cases, and in this cases it turns out that one has to use at least 3 load cases to get a sensible design. Finally, the model demonstrates how the optimized design can be modified so that the tower can be built using just 3 types of members.
