Interference Fit Connection in a Mountain Bike Fork
Application ID: 31001
Interference fit is a technique used to join two parts by fitting one over or around the other. The inner part is cooled so that it shrinks and can be fitted on the outer part. Once the part returns to its original temperature and expands, a contact pressure builds up at the interface between the two parts.
This type of connection is simulated in a tutorial example of a mountain bike fork in which the steering pipe is connected to the crown. The simulation investigates the contact pressure, stress distribution, and transferable force and torque.
